Businesses who provide selected accredited training and professional development for their staff may be eligible for financial support.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

The Certificate 3 Guarantee program, funded by the Queensland Government, supports eligible individuals to complete their first post-school certificate III qualification. It also supports school students to access training and Queensland's Year 12 graduates to transition to employment by providing fee-free training in high priority qualifications.

To be eligible to undertake a Certificate 3 Guarantee funded qualification, a student must be:

  • a Queensland resident aged 15 years or over who is no longer at school (with the exception of VET in Schools students)
  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency
  • not have or be enrolled in a certificate III level or higher qualification (not including qualifications completed at school and foundations skills training)

Please note: Students can access the Certificate 3 Guarantee subsidy only once, so it's important that you take the time to choose your course carefully to maximise your career or further training opportunities.

Higher Level Skills

The Higher Level Skills program, funded by the Queensland Government, provides a government subsidy to support eligible individuals to access subsidised training in selected certificate IV and above qualifications, or priority skill sets.

The aim is to assist individuals to gain the higher level skills required to secure employment or career advancement in priority industries or to transition to university. Employers may also be able to access training to address workforce development needs.

To be eligible to undertake a Higher Level Skills funded qualification, a student must be:

  • a Queensland resident aged 15 years or over who is no longer at school (with the exception of VET in Schools students)
  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency
  • not have or be enrolled in a certificate IV level or higher qualification (not including qualifications completed at school and foundations skills training)

Year 12 graduates eligible for fee free apprenticeship and traineeship training

Year 12 graduates can take advantage of fee-free training in high priority areas such as Axial’s engineering, automotive and meat retail trade qualifications.

Visit the training.qld.gov.au website for more information about other high priority qualifications available under the Queensland Government's Certificate 3 Guarantee program or User Choice program.

To be eligible to access fee-free training, the apprentice must:

  • have completed Year 12 in Queensland and hold a Senior Statement issued by the Queensland Studies Authority
  • enrol and start training with an approved training provider by the end of the calendar year following the completion of Year 12
  • be a Queensland resident

VET Student Loans

The Federal Government's VET Student Loans program commenced on 1 January 2017, replacing the VET FEEā€‘HELP scheme, which ceased on 31 December 2016.  Information about the new program is outlined here
